Aluminium window frames for off~road vehicles are nowbeing welded faster and tothe same high quality at Widney UK Ltd,following the installation of a Motoman ArcSystem 6000 robotic weldingcell comprising a 6~axes robot with a servo controlled twin stationpositioner.

The new cell is upto twice as fast as other robotcells, six times more productive than a manual welder and delivers animportant extra benefit. As CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) weld quality isso good, the process is able to match the quality of a TIG weld.

Currently there are very few off~road vehicles built onwhich the welds of Widneys window frames are visable. However, thehigher quality of theCMT weld will allow Widney greater flexibility, inthat additional products may be designed so that the welds do show, sogood is their appearance.
